A wIldlife artist with a difference! Brilliantly executed, the paintings are also filled with playful investigations along with huge respect for the tribal peoples and the precious creatures who share their world
Born in 1944, Geoff Weedon gained a 1st class Honours degree in Graphic Design before building a career in advertising as an art director and latterly a creative director at J Walter Thompson, then ultimately his own London agency. Its sale enabled him to move to the west country to reinvent himself as an artist.
Perhaps because of his background, ideas are central to his works, and his paintings display strong graphic qualities to arrest and challenge the viewer.
While his early work was largely autobiographical or concerned with social commentary, the last six years have seen him concentrate on African subject matter, working in distinct series of paintings whose style changes to match the needs of the subject. Most recent work makes a strong connection with climate change and is exceptional.
